Route description
Mynämäki is a municipality located just 30 km from Turku. It is known among local mountain bikers for its magnificent rock trails. There are many different route options in the area that are great for beginners and the most experienced mountain bikers alike. The ridden mountain biking trail passes through the best trail sections if Mynämäki and Nousiainen, and is best suited for more experienced bikers. The starting point of the mountain biking route is the parking lot of the Mynämäki Sports Centre, located at Urheilutie 6, 23100 Mynämäki. Here you can leave your car for the time of cycling without an hour limit. The water is not available along the route, so make sure you have enough water supplies with you. The route consists of two circles, one of which runs in Mynämäki area and the other goes further south towardsNousiainen.
The entire Mynämäki circle is 17.7 km long. This is a well ridden area, where you can enjoy a well defined singletrack and fast rock trail sections. Although there is a lot of diverse forest trails in the area, area’s best feature are fast and technical enough rock trails. It is so much fun to ride a mountain bike here (especially in dry weather), that you will surely not be disappointed. These are the best rock trails I have ridden in Finland so far.
The circle of Mynämäki is technically average. Its forest trails are mostly easy for mountain bikes, even for beginners. Many short climbs and descents add to the physical challenge of the route to some extent. However, you have to be careful on the rocks, as this section has more technical parts of the circle: small drops, steep climbs and descents, and some roots and rock-gardens. If you are a beginner and you definitely want to ride this route, then I recommend a special caution on the rocks. You’ll probably have to walk next to the bike in several places. For everyone else I can warmly recommend Mynämäki circle, it is definitely one of the best routes I have ridden in Finland.
The downloadable GPS track includes both circles. Thus, if your goal is to ride only the Mynämäki circle, then turn left at 6.4 km mark (the normal direction of the GPS track is to the right towards Nousiainen). If you wish to ride more kilometers and some additional technical challenge, then Nousiainen circle is for you (follow the track to the right).
Nousiainen circle (21.3 km) is much less ridden and the trails at some points have grown over. However, you can easily navigate on the correct route using a GPS device. In many places the paths cross quite a lot, so I recommend placing a GPS device on the handlebar. During the Nousiainen circle you will ride on many magnificent rocks and on diverse forest trails. In addition to the longer distance, the extra challenge comes from many “soft” and partially overgrown trails. Although, there are only few really technically challenging sections, I still do not recommend this loop for the beginners. Again, if you are an experienced rider and want an extra technical and aerobic challenge in addition to the magnificent scenery, I strongly recommend riding a whole 39 km!
In general, the route was a nice surprise as I didn’t really expect anything this great. A strong recommendation to Mynämäki, if you will be able to ride in Turku area at some point!
